John Berry returns to Mill Town Music Hall

BREMEN, Ga. -- Grammy Award nominee John Berry returns to Mill Town Music Hall on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m. This annual holiday favorite show consists of some of Berry’s best Christmas music along with his award winning country music. The Christmas part of the show started when Berry released his 1995 album O Holy Night and is now in its 18th year on tour. During the country music part of the evening, Berry will sing from his collection of country hits, including "Your Love Amazes Me."

Berry has recorded 16 studio albums, which includes one platinum and two gold albums. "Your Love Amazes Me" earned him a Grammy nomination and 19 other hit songs have made it to the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts including "Standing on the Edge of Goodbye," "I Think About It All The Time," "Change My Mind," "If I Had Any Pride Left At All," "Kiss Me In The Car," "What’s In It For Me" and "You and Only You."

Last weekend of roadwork for a while

(WXIA) -- The Georgia Department of Transportation has good news and bad news.

The bad news: Scheduled road maintenance will make weekend commutes difficult in several spots around Atlanta.

The good news: It's the last major construction weekend before workers take a break for Thanksgiving.

This weekend's projects include:

Clayton County
* 2 northbound lanes of I-75 will be closed at Highway 138 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete replacement.

Clayton/Henry counties
* 2 northbound lanes of I-75 will be closed between Hudson Bridge Road/Eagles Landing Parkway and Mount Zion Boulevard from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Sunday for concrete slab replacement.

Pro wrestler trades the ring for a deputy's badge


CARROLL COUNTY, GA (WXIA) -- A former professional wrestler who made his living in the ring has made an unexpected career move. He's now carrying a badge.

It is the time of year where leaves fade and fall, but dreams don' have to.

Barry Buchanan – at age 45 – is starting his dream job as a deputy with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.

"I've got a little more life experience than some of the guys that are starting," he said.

And what was that experience?

"If they don't know me as Bull Buchanan, they know me as Barry Buchanan," he said.

‘Walk On’ over to Mill Town to hear The Isaacs and The Diploma

BREMEN, Ga. -- The multi-award winning group The Isaacs, along with the multi-talented band The Diplomats, will perform at Mill Town Music Hall on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 p.m. The Isaacs have won numerous Dove Awards in various categories and have received several Grammy nominations through the years.

The Isaacs began singing 35 years ago and bring their unique style of tight, family harmony with contemporary acoustic instrumentation that appeals to a variety of audiences.  They are frequent performers at the Grand Ole Opry and are regulars on the Gaither Homecoming Videos and Concert Series. Their latest album, The Living Years, was nominated for Bluegrass Album of the Year by the Dove Awards. In mid-November, their newest Christmas album will be released.

Weekend roadwork: I-285 and the south side

Weekend roadwork: I-285 and the south side

(WXIA) -- The Georgia Department of Transportation will work on a number of infrastructure projects on Atlanta's highways this weekend.

Drivers are strongly encouraged to avoid Interstates 20 and 285 on the west side of the city, as well as I-75 south of the Perimeter, if possible.

As always, all work is weather permitting.

Scheduled projects include:

Bartow County
* 2 southbound lanes of I-75 will be closed between one mile south of Emerson-Allatoona Road and two miles north of Glade Road Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for bridge maintenance.

Clayton/Henry counties
* 2 northbound lanes of I-75 will be closed between Hudson Bridge Road/Eagles Landing Parkway and Mount Zion Boulevard from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Sunday for concrete slab replacement.

Ricky Skaggs to return to Mill Town Music Hall

BREMEN, Ga. -- The mandolin maestro Ricky Skaggs and his band, Kentucky Thunder, will perform at Mill Town Music Hall on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. Skaggs has won 14 Grammy Awards during his 55 years in the music industry. The Bluegrass band Bullsboro will open for Skaggs.

Considered a "recognized master" by age 21, Skaggs is well-known for delivering some of the most recognizable country and bluegrass albums ever produced. Throughout his career, he has collected and been nominated for numerous Country Music and International Bluegrass Music Awards, as well as being named by Country Music Television as one of the 40 Greatest Men of Country Music. In addition, Skaggs received the Academy of Country Music’s 2012 Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award, which honors individuals who are pioneers in the country music genre.

Graduation rates: Carroll County

(WXIA) -- Georgia's 2014 high school graduation rates were released Thursday.

This year's statewide average is 72.5 percent, up slightly from last year's 71.5 percent. It's also the third consecutive increase in the percentage of seniors who graduate from the state's public high schools.

Carroll County's 2014 graduation rate is 74.5 percent. At 83.3 percent, Mt. Zion High School in Carrollton has the county's highest graduation rate.

Other graduation rates in Carroll County include:

* Bowdon HS: 79.7 percent
* Central HS: 74.3 percent
* Temple HS: 78.2 percent
* Villa Rica HS: 69.7 percent
