BEST SPOTS: Inexpensive Dates

WEST METRO – For this week’s installment of Best Spots, we’re compiling a list of Inexpensive Date Spots for you to take your special someone.

In today’s economy, it’s important to find companionship which, in our opinion, is the cheapest form of entertainment. However, it’s the springtime, and people like to get out every now and then. So, check out these suggestions for fun under $15.

Take your date on a trip to Sweetwater Creek State Park. On April 30, the park will hold a Twilight Canoe trip. This sunset ride is ranger-led and only open to adults who can swim and have some canoeing experience. $15 includes the canoe, paddle and PFD. The trip will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will return to shore around 9:00 p.m.

For lunch, take your date to popular grill and lounge, Little Hawaiian. This lounge is a favorite location for local couples. For about $15, couples can enjoy the restaurant's signature dish, the Hawaiian Teriyaki Bowl. Owner Tano Phommasith began working as a chef when he was 15 years old in Honolulu, Hawaii. Little Hawaiian is located at 206 Rome Street in Carrollton.

Take your date to feed the ducks at Lake Carroll. The lake is located right off of State Route 166 and the ducks are always around and eager to eat. Pick up a loaf of bread from the Handee Market, a convenience store that has been in the community for many years, park your car, and head down to the lake to "start-a-feeding".

If your date is into history, take them on tours of Spelman and Morehouse Colleges. The alma-mater of dignitaries like Atlanta’s Martin Luther King Jr and Marian Wright Edelman, both historically black colleges have rich histories and have made many contributions to the culture of Altanta. Pretend to be a co-ed for just a day, re-live your college days. Tours are free and can be scheduled by calling (404) 681-3643 and (800) 851-1254.

Have fun with our suggestions and send us your photos at photos@11alive.com . You may see yourself on our “Weekends Best Photos” article on Monday.
