Powerball climbs to $173 million

ATLANTA – Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $173 million after no one matched all the winning numbers in Saturday’s drawing.

Two Georgia Lottery players matched four numbers plus the Powerball number Saturday, winning $10,000 each. The lucky tickets were purchased in McDonough and LaFayette.

The Powerball jackpot has been growing since Lithonia resident Kathy Scruggs won $25 million in the Sept. 14 drawing.

Powerball offers two payment options: the $173 million jackpot prize paid over 29 years in 30 graduated payments, or the cash option, which is approximately $105 million.

Powerball tickets are $1 per play.

As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Powerball will benefit education in the state of Georgia.

ASO to honor Metro Atlanta music teachers

ASO to honor Metro Atlanta music teachers

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will hold an appreciation ceremony for more than 180 Atlanta-area music teachers Friday evening.

The teachers will be recognized at 7 p.m. by ASO president Stanley Romanstein. Afterward, the instructors will attend the evening's concert featuring the music of Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninov and Mussorgsky.

ASO cellist Joel Dallow will also receive a special award from Romanstein for his arts education advocacy work throughout Georgia.

Both the 8 p.m. concert and the preceding reception will take place at the Woodruff Arts Center, 1280 Peachtree Street NE, Midtown.

Temple Tigers small but tough and definately real troopers

I want to tell you about a great high school band here in Temple, Ga. They are under the direction and leadership of Mr. Corey Newton.

Some may not even know where Temple, Ga. is located so let me tell you. We are a small town in West Ga. located about 10 miles from Carrollton, Ga. 7miles from Bremen, Ga. and 7 miles from Villa Rica, Ga. We recently made the news when Soldier Boy got arrested here. Last year we made the news when a terrible accident happened killing one of Temple High School's football players. About 2 years ago we made the news when Temple Middle school had some boys play fighting in the restroom and others vidoed it on their cell phones and sent it to another tv station. While bad things have happened here in Temple there are many good things happening as well.

ATLANTA – Powerball is packing a powerful punch with the jackpot for tonight’s drawing at an estimated $124 million to a single annuity winner.

It only takes $1 for a chance to win big.

Powerball offers two payment options: the jackpot prize paid over 29 years in 30 graduated payments or the cash option, which is approximately $75 million.

As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Powerball will benefit education in the state of Georgia.

Submissions needed for UWG public art project

CARROLLTON, Ga. -- The University of West Georgia needs community submissions for Howl for UWG, a public art project benefiting the school's scholarships, including those for art students.

"Howl" is patterned after Cows on Parade, an international public art project of painted cows that raises money for charity. The UWG campaign seeks to bridge art, academics and athletics using the school's wolf mascot as a metaphor for community.

With creations and donations from the public, fiberglass wolves will begin to prowl the UWG campus next fall.

All designs must be submitted to the university by Friday, Dec. 2. The ones that are selected will be fully credited and displayed at high visibility locations throughout UWG and Carrollton.

Artists whose projects are chosen will also receive $350 to honor the cost of supplies and materials.

Adopt a Golden Atlanta announces Seniors for Seniors Program

Adopt a Golden Atlanta (AGA) is initiating a Seniors for Seniors program, providing a way for seniors age 65 and older to adopt senior golden retrievers (10 years and older) by waiving the adoption fee or facilitating a permanent foster home arrangement.

In the last few years, Adopt a Golden Atlanta, the largest golden retriever rescue in the Southeast and fourth largest in the US, has seen an increase in the number of older dogs coming into the program – either due to passing of their owner or because of economic reasons. “We’ve seen a four-fold increase in the number of seniors we’ve taken in,” reports Lauren Genkinger, AGA’s president and founder. “So we’re announcing this program that is a win-win for both seniors involved – the human and the golden retriever,” she continues.
