Developing Museum to Hold Quilt Show in Atlanta

CARROLLTON, GA -- The Southeastern Quilt & Textile Museum, which is still in development, will hold its first-ever quilt show on Monday, Jan. 31.

The sale will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. under the Gold Dome at the Georgia State Capitol (214 State Capitol, Atlanta, 30334); the museum is slated to be built in Carrollton.

More than 50 quilts representing all parts of Georgia will be displayed and sold. The day promises to provide visitors with a rich and thorough history of the state, celebrating the past, present and future.

For Carrollton, the event marks a major step in a fundraising drive toward completing the museum. The Southeastern Quilt & Textile Museum will be the only such space of its kind in Georgia. Currently, the nearest quilting museum is located in Paducah, Kentucky.

ATLANTA -- The 119 Atlanta-area Chick-fil-A restaurants will host a special Daddy-Daughter Date Night on Saturday, Feb. 5.

Fathers and daughters will be encouraged to spend the evening together, enjoying time in the restaurant and participating in activities.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we come in contact with," said Robin Lomax, Chick-fil-A area marketing director. "We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage Atlanta community members to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their loved ones' company over a meal and celebrate the significant relationship in their lives."

Each Chick-fil-A will celebrate in its own way.

Spanish Harlem Orchestra coming to UWG

CARROLLTON, GA -- The University of West Georgia's Townsend Center for the Performing Arts presents the fourth annual Live Art performance starring the Spanish Harlem Orchestra on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

SHO is a multiple Grammy nominee and is considered America's foremost salsa band. The performance will also include salsa dancers.

The hope is to raise money for programs sponsored by the Townsend Center's Professional Series and the P.J. Harvey Live Art Scholarship Fund.

Tickets to see SHO are $38 for adults and $10 for students. Sponsorships are open to the public.

CARROLLTON, GA -- Campus Crest Communities, Inc., a developer and manager of student housing properties, will spread some holiday cheer to needy children in Carroll County this Christmas.

On Wednesday, Dec. 22, Campus Crest's co-founders -- CEO Ted Rollins and CIO Mike Hartnett -- will present 150 bicycles to children in need at Westside Full Gospel Baptist Church (719 North Aycock Street, Carrollton, 30017).

Campus Crest has maintained a relationship with Westside FGBC and its pastor, Walter Kight, since the company first developed a property in the area in 2006.

CARROLLTON, GA -- Comedian Gabriel Iglesias, whose high-octane standup act has sold out clubs nationwide and landed him on several TV shows, will perform in the University of West Georgia's Coliseum on Friday, Jan. 7 at 8:00 p.m.

Tickets are $20 and may be purchased on the Coliseum's Web site.

Iglesias combines impeccable vocal abilities with an uncanny knack for storytelling to keep crowds on the edge of their seats -- that is, when they aren't rolling on the floor laughing.

He has appeared on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno, Comedy Central's "Premium Blend" and HBO's "Comedy Minutes," among many other programs.

CARROLLTON, GA -- The University of West Georgia's Townsend Center for the Performing Arts, in partnership with the annual Toys for Tots toy drive, proudly presents Montreal's Circo Comedia on Friday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Unpredictable thrills, side-splitting comedy and daredevil stunts are the signature style of Circo Comedia, which stars Jean Saucier and Patrick Côté. Experience an evening of humor, acrobatic tricks, heroic feats and magical jesters that are great entertainment for the entire family.

Attendees are invited to bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots drive.

Tickets for Circo Comedia are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and military, and $8 for children.

Holiday Wishes Christmas Parade Coming to Carrollton

CARROLLTON, GA -- With lights, Christmas trees and even snow, there isn't a time more magical in December than at Carrollton's Holiday Wishes Christmas Parade.

This year's parade will be on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. It will begin at Dairy Queen (300 South Park Street, Carrollton, 30117) and head up Maple Street toward The Square before continuing down Newnan Street to South White Street. Line up for participants will begin at 4:00 p.m.

Last year, there were over 50 parade participants, ranging from civic organizations and churches to high school marching bands and fire trucks. This parade of lights and all things festive is a fun treat for the entire family.

The best place to view the parade is from historic downtown Carrollton, so be sure to get there early!

Carrollton Main Street
