DISNEY CHANNEL'S FIRST NATIONAL DANCE TALENT SEARCH COMES TO MALL OF GEORGIA SAT JULY 23

Make Your Mark: Ultimate Dance Off – 'Shake It Up' edition," Disney Channel's first national dance talent search just for kids, hosted by AT&T U-verse, will make its mark at Mall of Georgia in Buford, Georgia. Kids ages 8-16, with the consent of a parent, will have the opportunity to show off their dance skills and record a dance video onsite for online submission for a chance to compete in a dance off to air on Disney Channel in October 2011. The grand prize includes a special guest dance spot on "Shake It Up" plus the chance to meet the cast. Fans and dance enthusiasts are invited to come down and participate in a Q&A with Roshon Fegan.

Publix school supply drive to assist Carroll students

ATLANTA -- Parents and teachers know that having the right school supplies can mean the difference between a passing or a failing grade for students.

That's why Publix has teamed up with the United Way and several local partners to host the School Tools for Cool Kids program.

Residents can stop by their neighborhood Publix grocery stores from Monday, July 18 until Sunday, Aug. 14 to purchase and/or drop off school supplies in the School Tools bins.

"We encourage customers to donate school supplies to help . . . children begin the school year on a level playing field," said Brenda Reid, media and community relations manager for Publix.

Goodwill receives $5.7 million grant to help those in need

ATLANTA -- Good news is coming for many Georgians who are struggling to find jobs.

U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis recently announced that Goodwill of North Georgia will receive $5,724,222 to help people with barriers to employment, namely ex-offenders and low-income non-custodial parents, obtain the skills they need to find work.

The funds will go toward an Enhanced Transitional Jobs Demonstration program, which offers temporary paid work experiences to more than 3,500 people nationwide. The program improves participants' employability, earnings and opportunities for advancement, not to mention their self-sufficiency and long-term success in the workforce.

"This grant provides needed support to individuals who face significant obstacles to employment," Solis said.

ATLANTA – According to the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, “country music is a perennial Southern favorite in Atlanta and it won’t disappoint”. The music, which has its roots in the south, is known as a blend of, both, traditional and popular music. The country music genre gained widespread popularity around the mid-1900’s as music known as “hillbilly” or old-time music began to decline. Hillbilly music was a genre of music native to the people of the Ozarks. The music was usually played on acoustic instrument like a guitar or a banjo.

Over the years, old-time music changed however most of the lyrical content and instrumentation stayed the same. As it evolved, the arrangement of instruments grew to include the electronic keyboard, drums, the bass, fiddle and the harmonica.
