North Georgia: Let your blue light shine

ATLANTA -- April is Autism Awareness Month, and 17 North Georgia landmarks are letting their blue lights shine to raise awareness for this growing health crisis that now affects one in every 110 American children.

On the evenings of Friday, Apr. 1 and Saturday, Apr. 2, the buildings will illuminate special blue lights in support of Autism Speaks' global Light It Up Blue campaign.

Over 700 iconic locations in 180 U.S. cities and 30 countries will glow blue on Apr. 2, which is World Autism Awareness Day.

KENNESAW, Ga. -- Amateur athletes of every age, ability and passion can compete for medals again this year at the 2011 Georgia Games.

This year's edition of the state's largest multi-sport event will take place on various weekends throughout the summer.

Online registration is currently open for all 48 sports, listed below.

More than 8,000 athletes from 500 Georgia cities and town competed in the 2010 Games. The event is staffed by over 1,000 volunteers, who can also register online to help.

The Georgia Games is a festival for state citizens of all ages and athletic abilities, including physically disabled and Paralympic athletes.

CARROLLTON, GA -- The 26th annual Mayfest Arts & Crafts Festival is right around the corner.

The 2011 event will be at Carrollton's Market Square on Saturday, May 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. These hours will be packed with incredible arts and crafts from vendors all over the region, traditional carnival food, live entertainment, a children's village chock-full of activities and more.

ATLANTA -- The social networking site Atlanta MomsLikeMe is on the hunt for Atlanta's Coolest Kid and is offering up an $1,800 prize package to find him or her.

The site is accepting photo entries of children in a cool environment, like snow or a pool, until Friday, March 4.  Then, the public can vote for their favorite cool kid photo.

Voting ends on March 20 and the contestant whose photo received the most votes will score the Grand Prize: a voucher for a three-night stay at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort.  The prize includes golf, tennis, biking and fitness center access.

ATLANTA -- The 119 Atlanta-area Chick-fil-A restaurants will host a special Daddy-Daughter Date Night on Saturday, Feb. 5.

Fathers and daughters will be encouraged to spend the evening together, enjoying time in the restaurant and participating in activities.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we come in contact with," said Robin Lomax, Chick-fil-A area marketing director. "We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage Atlanta community members to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their loved ones' company over a meal and celebrate the significant relationship in their lives."

CARROLLTON, GA -- The University of West Georgia's Townsend Center for the Performing Arts, in partnership with the annual Toys for Tots toy drive, proudly presents Montreal's Circo Comedia on Friday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Unpredictable thrills, side-splitting comedy and daredevil stunts are the signature style of Circo Comedia, which stars Jean Saucier and Patrick Côté. Experience an evening of humor, acrobatic tricks, heroic feats and magical jesters that are great entertainment for the entire family.

Attendees are invited to bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots drive.

Tickets for Circo Comedia are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and military, and $8 for children.
