BREMEN | Man waives appearance in Walmart abduction case

BREMEN, Ga. -- A 25-year-old man accused of trying to abduct a seven-year-old girl from a west Georgia Walmart has waived his right to his first court appearance.

Thomas A. Woods of Austell is accused of trying to grab the girl, Brittney Baxter, and carry her out of the store Wednesday.

Bremen police Chief Keith Pesnell said an alert was issued with a description of Woods' car, and he was caught by police about 10 miles west in Tallapoosa. He faces a charge of attempted kidnapping, and more charges are likely.

Pesnell says Woods was out on probation after being convicted of voluntary manslaughter in DeKalb County.

Woods is being held in the Haralson County Jail. He will now face a grand jury.

A phone listing for Woods could not immediately be found.
