CARROLLTON, Ga. -- The University of West Georgia will begin searching for a new head football coach this fall.

The current coach, Daryl Dickey, is also the school's athletic director. Because the athletics program at UWG is growing rapidly, Dickey will give up his coaching duties at the end of the upcoming season to focus exclusively on the athletic director position.

"It has been a pleasure and honor to serve our university as athletic director and head football coach," Dickey said in a statement. "We have made a great deal of progress in a short period of time, and we are excited about the future of our athletic program at the University of West Georgia."

UWG president Dr. Kyle Marrero said Dickey's transition is a perfect reflection of the university's recent growth.

"It is important for UWG to think strategically in all of its endeavors, including athletics," Marrero said in a statement. "This decision represents the first steps in providing an overall strategic plan that will guide future decisions and directions of the athletic program."

The search for a new football coach is expected to begin in the coming months.

UWG currently has 13 men's and women's varsity sports. Learn more at uwgsports.com.
